After directing the critically acclaimed horror film “The Cabin in the Woods” in 2011, Goddard moved on to develop and executive produce “The Martian” in 2015, which led to an Oscar nomination for best adapted screenplay.
Starring Keanu Reeves, Hugo Weaving, Laurence Fishburne, and Carrie-Anne Moss, “The Matrix” made its debut in 1999. The dystopian sci-fi epic centers on Neo (Reeves), a computer programmer who learns that mankind is imprisoned inside the Matrix, a virtual environment, and is called to join a cyber-intelligence uprising.
The now-iconic first movie was one of the most successful cinematic releases of the year, grossing nearly $467 million at the time of its release. In addition to producing three sequels, “The Matrix Reloaded” and “The Matrix Revolutions” in 2003 and “The Matrix Resurrections” in 2021, it went on to win four Academy Awards.
The studio claims that during the course of the franchise’s 25-year history, it has made just under $2 billion worldwide.
