Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, the incoming president of Brazil, is scheduled to speak at the COP27 UN climate summit in Egypt.

Brazil's Lula will return to the global scene at COP27 in relation to climate change.

The victory of the left-wing politician in 2022 has been hailed as the finest development for the environment because of his pledge to stop the destruction of the Amazon rainforest.

At a gathering in Sharm el-Sheikh, nations are debating how to combat climate change.

The arrival of the freshly elected Brazilian president at this meeting has generated a real feeling of excitement.

On Tuesday at COP27, young Brazilian activists had a private meeting with Lula. “It was really emotional, and I shed many tears. The feeling of being a part of Brazil again is incredible “According to Gabrielle Alves, a member of the Clima de Mudanca alliance and a researcher on environmental racism, BBC News.

Deforestation of the Amazon reached historic highs under President Jair Bolsonaro, who will be replaced in office by Lula in January.

Mr. Bolsanaro, a climate sceptic, claimed that non-governmental organisations (NGOs) had set the Amazon on fire to discredit his government, and he allowed illegal mining to spread throughout the region, including on protected indigenous lands.

An indigenous chief from the largely deforested Pará state named Puyr Tembé told BBC News that Mr. Bolsonaro completely demolished regulations safeguarding the Amazon and assaulted environmental activists.

Lula, on the other hand, has stated that he will work to stop deforestation and restore the Amazon.
