At a shareholders meeting, Warren Buffett will make his first appearance without Charlie Munger, his longtime friend and business partner who passed away in November.
This is “woodstock for capitalists.” Welcome.
This weekend, tens of thousands of fans of Warren Buffett and shareholders of Berkshire Hathaway (BRKB) traveled to Nebraska to partake in newspaper-throwing competitions, eat See’s Candies and Dairy Queen Dilly Bars, and, most importantly, witness the Oracle of Omaha speak live.
But the occasion will have a more somber tone this year. For the first time, Buffett will be seen without Charlie Munger, his lifelong friend and business colleague who passed away in November.
Ajit Jain, who oversees Berkshire’s insurance division, and Greg Abel, who is anticipated to succeed Buffett as head of the company’s noninsurance activities, are anticipated to accompany Buffett on stage. The friendly banter and Munger’s razor-sharp (and frequently sardonic) comments, however, will be missed.
