The immensely popular online multiplayer game “World of Warcraft,” or “WoW,” lets players engage in combat with creatures and go on adventures across the medieval realm of Azeroth.

The businesses stated that the games will “sequentially return to the Chinese market beginning this summer” and that they will provide more information later.

William Ding, Chief Executive Officer and Director of NetEase, stated, “We are excited to start this new chapter, built on trust and mutual respect, to serve our users in this unique community that we’ve built together.”

To sell video games in China, foreign publishers must collaborate with regional partners. But in November 2022, Blizzard and NetEase declared they would not extend their licensing agreements since they could not come to an agreement on important details.

According to a statement released on Wednesday, Microsoft Gaming and NetEase have also reached an agreement to investigate bringing new games from the Chinese company to Xbox platforms. In 2023, Microsoft completed its acquisition of Activision Blizzard, one of the largest video game developers in the world.
