“They came and settled on my body as I passed by [the bee farm], and they started paying attention to what I was saying,” he says.

Tamirat said he did nothing to draw them in. “They simply get who I am. When people approach bees, they behave similarly to humans.”

 

He claims that at first, his neighbors and family were alarmed by his audacious confrontations with bees and advised him to avoid them. Tamirat, meanwhile, continued to have faith in his peculiar talent.

In a community where bee farmers usually harvest honey at night to prevent stings, it has become evident over time that he has a unique bond with honey bees.

This practice is especially prevalent in Ethiopia’s rural areas, where studies have indicated that bee stings may be fatal.
