Speaker of the House Alban Bagbin has criticized President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo once more for refusing to sign three measures that the legislature has passed.
Alban Bagbin expressed dissatisfaction over the president’s unwillingness to sign the measures and accused him of misinterpreting the nation’s constitutional procedures.
In a letter to Parliament, President Akufo-Addo informed them of his decision. He cited the potential financial impact on the consolidated fund as well as their purported constitutional violations as justifications for his rejection.
The relevant laws are the Ghana Armed Forces Amendment Bill 2023 and the Criminal Offenses Amendment laws 2023 Numbers one and two, both of which are sponsored by Francis Xavier Sosu, the member of parliament for Madina.
Speaking on the subject, Bagbin called the President’s position “unfortunate” and emphasized that the Supreme Court had not yet rendered a decision regarding the laws’ validity.
