The government must revoke Executive Instrument 144, which declassified portions of the Achimoto Forest as forest reserves, as stressed by the Minority in Parliament.
The caucus is also pushing for the revocation of Legislative Instrument 2462, which would prohibit mining leases for as long as 24 years to be granted on the nation’s forest reserves.
Dr. Rashid Pelpuo, ranking member of the Lands and Forestry Committee, emphasized the need for the government to show that it is committed to preserving Ghana’s forest reserves during the budget approval debate for the Lands and Natural Resources sector.
