The Blue Cruise feature was activated just prior to the collision in both incidents. It was nighttime when both accidents happened. In every case, there was at least one fatality. Reuters reports that one crash occurred in San Antonio and the other in Philadelphia.

The NHTSA states that the inquiry will examine the system’s capabilities for both driver monitoring and vehicle operation.

Ford has stated it is collaborating with regulators, citing a Reuters story, although the corporation was not immediately accessible to comment on CNN’s request for information regarding the inquiry.
