Dancehall artist Samini from Ghana has said that Amapiano, a prominent music genre in South Africa, is just a rebranded version of Ghana’s famous Azonto.
In a recent interview on Property Fm, Sami explained why he thinks the genre draws inspiration from Ghanaian roots. He emphasized that Amapiano heavily borrows from the composition components of Azonto, which was extremely famous throughout many nations during its heyday.
Although Samini conceded that Amapiano began as a house music subgenre in South Africa in the middle of the 2010s, she maintained that the parallels between the two genres are too great to be overlooked.
