The sequence of events that led to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s hiring by the Bank of Ghana (BoG) in the past has been clarified by Kwabena Agyepong.

President John Agyekum Kufuor did not appoint Bawumia to the BoG as a young banker, according to Agyepong, who was responding to such charges.
He recalled meeting Bawumia in 2001 while serving as the presidential spokesperson for then-President Kufuor. At the time, Bawumia was working for the BoG as Paul Acquah’s personal assistant.
Also untrue is the claim that President Kufuor introduced him to the Bank of Ghana. When we (the NPP government) took office in 2001, Dr. Duffuor was still serving as the governor of the Central Bank, and the president permitted him to finish his term.
“Bawumia was brought to the bank by Duffuor, and Paul Acquah from the IMF was brought in after Duffuor. Bawumia became like a PA to him because she was working at the Research Department at the time.
