World Cup quarterfinalists Asamoah Gyan, Muntari, and Appiah are selected for the African dream team.

Asamoah Gyan is a striker.

Gyan was one of Ghana’s 2010 heroes and the best African scorer in World Cup history, but his tournament in South Africa was unavoidably marred by his missed penalty against Uruguay.

But his victories over Serbia and the US, along with his goal against Australia, were crucial in getting Ghana to the quarterfinals.

Roger Milla, striker

Milla, the standout member of Cameroon’s 1990 generation, was only named to the team after President Paul Biya insisted on it following a disappointing run at the Africa Cup of Nations.

When he was 38 years old, he took on the role of a super-sub, scoring twice against Colombia and Romania while coming off the bench to give a helper and win a penalty against England in the quarterfinal. His corner flag Makossa celebration while hip-swaying has come to symbolise Africa’s World Cup participation.

Substitutes

Salif Diao, Papa Bouba Diop, Aliou Cisse, Khalilou Fadiga, John Mensah, Isaac Vorsah, John Paintsil, Anthony Annan, Hans Sarpei, Kevin-Prince Boateng, and Louis-Paul M’Fede
