International police coordination was facilitated by Europol, the law enforcement arm of the European Union. Four individuals connected to the operation of Lab Host, including the service’s creator, were detained, according to a separate statement.

The Lab Host probe has turned up at least 40,000 phishing sites with roughly 10,000 users globally, according to Europol.

It stated, “Lab Host would offer a range of illicit services that were customizable and could be deployed with a few clicks, with a monthly fee averaging $249.”

“Criminals were given an increasing range of targets from financial institutions, postal delivery services, and telecommunications service providers, among others, depending on the subscription.”

One of the services provided, according to Europol, was a campaign management tool called Lab Rat, which was made to go beyond more sophisticated security measures like two-factor authentication and allowed criminals to monitor and control phishing operations in real time.

Authorities shut down a $249 monthly global phishing service that 2,000 hackers were using.
