After purportedly abandoning its aspirations for self-driving cars, Apple has reportedly slashed more than 600 positions.

According to Bloomberg, the address of the location where the recently shelved self-driving car project in California was being developed accounts for the majority of the reduction.On March 28, the state’s employment department received notice that 614 employees would be let off in May.

Unlike other companies that have let off hundreds of thousands of workers since the pandemic, the computer behemoth has escaped huge layoffs in recent years.

Tim Cook, the CEO of Apple, stated to CNBC in May of last year that layoffs would be a “last resort.”.In 2024, the industry will have already experienced over 50,000 job losses, according to tracker.layoffs.fyi.

Prominent corporations, including Amazon, Google, Microsoft, Snap, and PayPal, are a few of the tech organizations that have declared layoffs for 2024.

Comparatively speaking, Apple has let go of considerably fewer employees than its rivals.

GlobalData estimates that it employs 161,000 people worldwide.

According to Paolo Pescatore, an industry analyst at PP Foresight, “no one is immune to job cuts,” despite Apple being the most valuable corporation in the world.
