In addition to advising voters not to support ethnic or religious politics, Nana Akufo-Addo asked them to choose Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, his vice president, to succeed him.

Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia was elected flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party on November 4, 2023.

He will compete against John Mahama, who was defeated in a bid for reelection in 2020 after being voted out of government in 2016.
