Steven Mukwala gave Kotoko the lead, but the referee’s decision to award a highly disputed penalty caused them to lose their advantage.

After a cross was put into the Kotoko box and there was a scramble for the ball and a lost chance at goal for a Goldstars player, the referee pointed to the spot and whistled for the penalty.

Ibrahim Laar of Goldstars took the shot, but Frederick Asare made a good save to stop him, allowing Yahaya Adraman to score on the rebound.
